Pharmaco Vigilance Committee
Pharmacovigilance (PV) is defined as the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problem. WHO established its Program for International Drug Monitoring in response to the thalidomide disaster detected in 1961. At the end of 2010, 134 countries were part of the WHO PV Program, India being one of them. PK Das Institute of Medical Sciences aims to enhance patient care and patient safety in relation to the use of medicines; and to support public health programs by providing reliable, balanced information for the effective assessment of the risk-benefit profile of medicines.
Objectives
Objectives of the Pharmacovigilance committee in PK Das Institute of Medical Sciences.
- To generate awareness about ADRs among health care provider and students of PK das institute of Medical Sciences, by different activities.
- To pick up ADRs occurring in the patients admitted to PK Das hospital and reports the same to the authorities' i.e. National Pharmacovigilance Center.
- To carry out the casualty analysis of ADRs.
- To undertake scientific and research activities pertaining to ADRs.
- To make efforts to minimise the chances of ADR and thereby make drug therapy safer and rational.
- To take up activities to strengthen the ongoing National Pharmacovigilance programme.
