Community Medicine is the branch of medicine that deals with population and comprises of doctors who try to measure the needs of population , both sick and well, who plan and administer services to meet those needs and those who are engaged in research and teaching in the field.
The department vision is to create an innovative, rural based ,primary health care oriented and value based medical education to train the “ doctors of Tomorrow’ who are competent to function as:
Care providers
Decision makers
Communicators
Community leaders and Managers
Provision of cost effective primary health care strategies characterized by equity, intersectoral coordination and community participation
At the end of the course in community medicine the student shall acquire knowledge, attitude and skill required to function as a care provider, decision maker, communicator, community leader and manager to facilitate the delivery of primary health care in rural and urban settings.
